Brotherhood is the very price
and condition of man's
survival.
Carlos Pena Romulo
When we study the process of initiation, we contemplate what it truly means, to be humbled. We are constantly reminded of what humbleness is, and
why we as Masons should practice it.
The question is asked “H wr y p” The answer, “B bg nei n nor cl, b n sh, h-w w a c-t ab m n.” The humbling process had begun. You came to the door of the Lodge
and had to wait for someone else to decide if you were worthy and well qualified to enter. You couldn’t speak for yourself; others that were more informed had to
speak on your behalf. You were asked “I wm d y pl Y t,” in the volume of the sacred law in John 4: 10, it states, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he
shall lift you up.” Just these few examples would be enough, but it doesn’t stop there. You had to trust someone that you did not know to lead you around the
Lodge, because of the condition that you were in. After the ritual was over; you were required for a period of 30 days to study with the assistance of the Senior
Deacon. You had to come to the realization that without his help and that of your instructors, you would not have passed your proficiency. You humbled yourself.
You may ask yourself, why are all these examples of humbleness found in our degree work? It takes a humble man to practice our 5 points of
fellowship. It takes a humble man to go into the community without hope of fee or reward and do the charitable endeavors we do. It takes a humble man
to come to the assistance of a worthy distressed Brother and his family. And finally it takes a humble man to submit himself to the teachings of Freemasonry.

The legacy of Prince Hall was twofold and widespread. This legacy was one that was limited and fixed for a small time but it was to grow, to expand and to be conserved. -Charles H. Wesley Prince Hall Life and Legacy
